Terms & Conditions

Last Updated: 18 November 2025

1. Definitions

  • “The Borrowed Brick” refers to our company providing LEGO® rental services.

  • “Borrowed Set” means any LEGO® set you receive under your subscription.

  • “Subscription Plan” refers to the monthly or annual plan you select.

  • "Borrowing Limit" means the maximum number of Borrowed Sets you may hold at any one time under your Subscription Plan, as set out on our Plans page at the time you subscribe.

1A. Statutory rights statement

Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, including your rights in relation to hired goods being of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose, and as described. If a Borrowed Set arrives faulty, damaged, or not as described through no fault of your own, contact us at info@theborrowedbrick.com and we will repair, replace, or refund as appropriate.

2. Ownership

All LEGO® sets remain the property of The Borrowed Brick at all times. You agree not to sell, transfer, or otherwise dispose of any borrowed set.

3. Delivery

  • Orders are dispatched within 1–2 business days, subject to availability.

  • Delivery times are estimates and may vary due to circumstances beyond our control.

  • The Borrowed Brick is not liable for delays caused by our selected courier or incorrect address details provided by you.

4. Hygiene

We clean and inspect all LEGO® sets before dispatch using hot soapy water and mild detergents. While we take reasonable steps to ensure cleanliness, we cannot guarantee sets are allergen-free.

5. Care of Sets

You agree to:

  • Treat borrowed sets with care.

  • Return sets dismantled and in the same condition you received them. Failure to do so may result in a handling fee of £10, reflecting our reasonable additional cleaning and sorting costs.

6. Returns

Follow the return instructions provided in your Borrowed Brick box:

  1. Dismantle the set into individual pieces.

  2. Place pieces, minifigures, and instructions in the provided plastic box.

  3. Reuse the original cardboard parcel box where possible.

  4. Seal the box using the provided return seal or tape.

  5. Email us at info@theborrowedbrick.com for your pre-paid shipping label.

Failure to follow the return steps above (e.g. sets returned assembled, or without the provided packaging) may result in a handling fee of £10, calculated to reflect our reasonable additional processing costs.

7. Shipping

  • Shipping for each set is provided free of charge and included in the monthly subscription price. It covers outbound and return shipping for each borrowed set.

8. Subscription & Billing

  • Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled.

  • You may keep a set as long as you wish, subject to the borrowing limits for your plan.

  • Monthly fees continue while you hold a set, reflecting the ongoing hire of that set — see Clause 15 for what happens if a set becomes significantly overdue.

9. Cancellation & Refunds

  • If you signed up online or by phone, you have a legal right to cancel your subscription within 14 days of the date you subscribed, without giving a reason, under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013.

  • If you ask us to start the service within the 14-day period and we do, and you then cancel, you'll be charged a proportionate amount for the service provided up to the point you told us you wanted to cancel, and you must return any Borrowed Set in line with Clause 6. By requesting delivery within the 14-day period, you agree to this and acknowledge you may lose part of your cancellation right accordingly.

  • To cancel after the initial 14 days, return all Borrowed Sets and email info@theborrowedbrick.com. Your subscription will end once we've received and checked the returned set(s). No refund is given for the current billing period once a set has been dispatched to you, except as set out directly below.

  • Pro-rata refunds apply only where cancellation occurs within 30 days of an annual renewal and all sets are returned. Gift cards are non-refundable (see Clause 11).

  • You can view your current plan, next renewal date, and cancel at any time by logging into your account / emailing info@theborrowedbrick.com. We'll email you a reminder before your annual plan renews.

  • If you're unhappy with how we've handled a cancellation or refund, contact us first at info@theborrowedbrick.com. We do not currently use an alternative dispute resolution (ADR) provider. If we can't resolve your complaint directly, you may still be able to bring a claim through the small claims court.

10. Missing Pieces

  • Report missing pieces within 5 days of receiving a set; we will send replacements free of charge.

  • Unreported missing pieces meeting our threshold (5/10g+, rare parts, minifigures) will incur replacement costs plus a £5 admin fee per set. Rare and minifig pieces will be recharged at the cost to us to replace the piece using LEGO's official replacement parts price / BrickLink's average market price at the time of charge, and missing pieces in excess of the insured weight (5/10g depending on price plan) will be charged at £1 per gram.

  • Borrowing privileges may be suspended until charges are settled.

11. Gift Cards

  • Gift cards are redeemable only against subscription plans.

  • Non-refundable and must be activated within 12 months of purchase.

12. Referral Program

  • Abuse of the referral program (including fraudulent referrals or fake accounts) may result in disqualification from rewards.

  • We may modify or close the referral program at any time; where reasonably possible, we'll give at least 7 days' notice on our website.

13. Privacy

  • We comply with UK GDPR. We do not sell your personal data. We share data only where necessary to deliver our service — for example, with payment processors, couriers, and IT service providers who act on our instructions — or where required by law. Full details of what we collect, why, and your rights are in our Privacy and Cookie Policy

14. SMS Policy

  • We may send SMS messages for essential account and order updates, such as delivery notifications and payment reminders. These are part of the service and don't require separate consent.

  • If you'd like to receive SMS offers and promotions, we'll only do so with your explicit opt-in consent, and you can opt out at any time by replying STOP or contacting info@theborrowedbrick.com.

15. Non-Payment & Replacement Charges

  • By subscribing, you consent to us securely storing your payment details and using them to collect: your recurring subscription fee; reasonable handling or replacement charges under Clauses 5, 6 and 10; and, where applicable, the RRP charge under this clause. We'll always email you before taking a one-off charge, where practical to do so.

  • If a Borrowed Set is not returned within 16 days of your subscription lapsing into arrears, we'll treat this as your decision to purchase the set and will charge the outstanding RRP (LEGO's official RRP at the time) to your stored payment details, using the payment authority you agreed to at sign-up (see below).

  • We will credit any subscription fees already paid for that set's current hire period against the RRP charge, so you are not paying full price on top of ongoing subscription fees for the same set.

  • By subscribing, you authorise us to charge your stored payment method for (a) recurring subscription fees, and (b) the one-off RRP charge described above, calculated as described above. Once this charge is made, your account will be closed and the set is yours to keep.

16. Liability

  • Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for: death or personal injury caused by our negligence; fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; or any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under English law.

  • Subject to the above, we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of our service, or for any loss that was not reasonably foreseeable to both parties at the point you subscribed.

  • Subject to the above, our total liability to you for any claim arising from your subscription will not exceed the amount you have paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.

  • If you deliberately damage, lose, or fail to return a Borrowed Set in breach of these Terms, you agree to reimburse us for our direct, reasonable costs as a result — for example, the cost of the missing pieces, replacement RRP, or reasonable handling fees set out in Clauses 5, 6 and 10. This does not extend to indirect losses, and does not apply where the issue was outside your reasonable control.

17. Force Majeure

  • We are not responsible for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control (e.g., postal strikes, natural disasters).

18. Governing Law

  • These Terms are governed by English law, and disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

19. Changes to Terms

  • We may update these Terms from time to time, for example to reflect changes in our services or the law. We'll post any changes here and notify you by email at least 30 days before they take effect. If you don't agree with a material change, you may cancel your subscription without penalty by returning your Borrowed Set(s) before the change takes effect.
